Warming breakfasts for chilly mornings πŸ₯£

Hello again my friend!

Hands up who's switched over to a hot breakfast? πŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

I actually made the change a few weeks ago. It's pretty cold now in the morning, and while yogurt, fruit and granola was fine in the summer, these days I need something that will warm me up from the inside. Bring on the steamy bowls of porridge and hot buttered toast!

To add a burst of flavour and a pop of colour to my breakfast plate, I've also started making chia jam. This gorgeous fruity spread has only two ingredients - fruit, and chia seeds! It has no added sugar so the fresh flavours of the fruits really shine through. Plus it's high in fibre, protein, natural polyphenols and omega-3 fatty acids. It takes only about 10-15 minutes to make a batch, and it's a totally delicious way to give your breakfast a boost! Try it spread thickly on toast, or swirled into your morning porridge. You'll find all the details here.

The most important meal of the day!

My Mum always used to say that breakfast was the most important meal of the day. I'm not sure that's actually true, but I do know that I barely pass as human until I've had a cup of tea at the very least! If you're someone who just can't function without breakfast, below are some of my favourite morning meals that will set you up for the day ahead.

Whether you prefer sweet or savoury, you'll find something here to suit. And there are plenty of make-ahead options for a quick grab-and-go breakfast on your way out the door, too!

Delicious breakfasts to start your day off right

Below are some of my favourite breakfast recipes to set you up for the day even on chilly mornings.

  • Extra creamy oatmeal porridge
A scoop of oat bran boosts the nutrient content of your porridge while also making it extra creamy and luscious! Win win!
  • Queen Esther's Toast
Not just for Purim! These traditional Spanish fritters are very similar to French toast and are delicious topped with a sprinkle of cinnamon or a drizzle of maple syrup.
  • Bubble and squeak latkes
A fabulous way to recycle leftover potatoes and veg into a tasty, filling breakfast. Top with smoked salmon and/or a poached egg for extra protein and deliciousness.
  • Easy banana scones
Put your spotty bananas to good use! These naturally sweet banana scones can be made in advance and enjoyed for breakfast with butter, jams, nut butter, honey, or any combination!
  • Flower Toast aka 'egg in a basket'

Tired of egg ON toast? Try egg IN toast!! Simple to make, this lovely breakfast looks gorgeous and tastes delicious too.
  • Vegan Norwegian Waffles
Light, crisp, and fragrant with cardamom and vanilla, these vegan Scandi waffles are delicious topped with jam and (non-dairy) yogurt or sour cream.
  • Full Jewish Breakfast
The Full English's Jewish cousin! Out with the bacon, in with wurst, cholent, and slices of golden challah toast.
  • Sugar-free breakfast muffins with granola topping
A wonderful make ahead breakfast packed with nutritious ingredients like fruit, veg and whole grains. Naturally sweetened and perfect to nosh on the go when you're in a rush.
  • Mushroom shakshuka

A hearty and filling option when you want something to keep you full till lunchtime and beyond. Scoop onto pita or toast and enjoy!

Hello again my friend! With just a few days to go until Pesach, this week I want to focus on the things that people really seem to struggle with. Those seem to be breakfasts, and finding things for Pesach that children will willingly eat. My response to both of these things is really the same, and that is, do whatever works! There are no 'rules' around what is an acceptable breakfast food and what isn't, or even that you MUST eat breakfast at all. So if you find something that works for you...

Hello there my friend! Apologies for no newsletters for the last couple of weeks. You may remember that I was unwell at the start of the year, and apparently, I'm not as recovered as I thought I was 😞. So this time I'm taking it even easier... if that's possible with just a couple of weeks till Pesach 😲 Fortunately, I have my guide to a stress-free Pesach to remind me that this holiday doesn't have to be overwhelming! If you need a reminder about what's important and what's just 'nice to...

Rich, fruity, spicy & delicious, each of these buns sports a magnificent Magen David on its golden, shiny top. Enjoy them warm, cold or toasted. (Parve)

Hello there my friend, The joyful festival of Purim starts on Monday evening. One of the special mitzvot of Purim is giving mishloach manot - gifts of food and drink - to friends and family. Each person should give one or more gifts containing at least two ready-to-consume items. This means that there's plenty of scope around what to include and how many gifts to give. Giving mishloach manot is probably my favourite Purim activity! Each year I choose a theme and create gift bags with an...
