Enjoy Autumn's fruits in these delicious cakes and bakes.

Hello there my friend!

High Holiday season has finally come to a close, and regular, everyday life can resume. After a month of special foods, it's good to be eating a bit more 'normally' again! And while we've been distracted with festivals, loads of gorgeous Autumn fruits have appeared. So this week, I'm suggesting some delicious ways to enjoy them. A post-YomTov treat, if you like πŸ™‚

Recipe of the week - Baked mujadara

Mujadara is a classic Middle Eastern dish, combining lentils, rice, and golden fried onions with rich and aromatic spices. It's a comforting, nutritious vegan meal or a versatile side dish, and this oven-baked version is super easy to prepare. Serve with roasted vegetables and a dollop of yogurt for a simple, tasty Shabbat meal. Or go all in and enjoy it as part of a larger spread with salads, fish, or whatever delicious dishes take your fancy. You'll find more ideas by clicking the link below.

Delicious fruity cakes, bakes and puddings

Locally grown apples, pears and quinces are at their peak, and are terrific enjoyed in a warming pudding. Just add custard! Here are some of my family's favourites.

  • Healthier fruit crumble

A layer of juicy, succulent fruit under a nutty, sweet and delicious crumble topping. I prepare big batches of crumble and freeze, ready to tip over a dish of fruit and bake at a moment's notice. Handy!
  • Quince and apple sponge-crumble
Quince and apple is a gorgeous combination, and the topping for this lovely pud is a cross between a fruit sponge and a crumble. So good!
  • Spiced apple blintzes
Lacy golden pancakes wrapped around a sweet and lightly spiced fruit filling. A classic Jewish dessert that's delicious with a dollop of sour cream or yogurt.
  • Plum and almond crumble cake
If you can't choose between a pudding and a cake, this is the answer! Scrumptiously fruity, it's delicious hot with custard, and just as good sliced up to serve with a cup of tea or coffee.
  • Apple and blackberry crumble with walnuts
The spicy, nutty topping of this gorgeously Autumnal apple and berry crumble is bursting with walnuts and brown sugar. Delicious.
  • Apple galettes with honey and thyme
Rich, buttery golden pastry and an aromatic apple filling enhanced with the sweetness of honey. A beautiful, simple but sophisticated dessert.
  • Pear and apple crumble cake (vegan)
I love a crumble cake! This one delivers in spades - tender vegan sponge, sumptuous Autumn fruits, and a gorgeous oaty topping. Perfection.
  • Polish apple pancakes (racuchy)
Fluffy, cinnamon-scented pancakes stuffed with soft slices of apple. Dust with icing sugar for a sensational dessert, breakfast, snack or teatime treat.
