Chag Shavuot Sameach! π Happy Shavuot!
Published over 1 year agoΒ β’Β 2 min read
Hello my friend!
I'm popping into your inbox this week to wish you a very happy Shavuot! The festival begins on Sunday evening, and depending on your tradition concludes on either Monday or Tuesday evening.
Below I've linked to some helpful Shavuot recipes and resources. But I also want to share something that I made last Friday night that is perfect for the festival! Unfortunately I didn't take any photos, so I will make it again soon, and then write it up on family-friends-food. But in the meantime, here's an EXCLUSIVE sneaky peak just for email subscribers!
Roasted onion roses
Brush a 12-cup muffin tin with olive oil. Cut the tops and roots off 6 medium onions, peel them, and cut each one in half horizontally through the 'equator'. Place half an onion, cut side up, in each cup of the muffin tin.
Mix 2-3 tbsp of softened butter with 1 tbsp homemade soup powder or the seasonings/herbs/spices of your choice. Divide the flavoured butter between the onions, and spread into an even layer across the cut surface.
Roast the onions at 190Β°C for 45-60 minutes until golden, caramelised and beautiful! The rings will separate a bit and give the onions the appearance of roses. Transfer the roasted onions to a serving plate, sprinkle with chopped parsley, and serve!
I used regular white onions, but you could certainly use red onions for this, or a mixture of the two. The main thing is that they are the right size to sit snugly in the muffin tin. If they are a bit big, just peel an extra layer or two off the onion till they are the right size. (You can chop and freeze the removed layers to use in another recipe.)
These roasted onions were SO delicious, buttery, savoury, and just beautiful. Since floral motifs are traditional on Shavuot, I think these tick all the boxes! πΉ
